This would enable the company increase its penetration into information and communication technology market.
"We are ramping up our global headcount to enable us to increase our penetration and improve consultancy services in ICT market, and increase our penetration in e-retail and financial services markets," Sutherland Global Services chairman and chief executive officer Dilip Vellodi said on Thursday.
The new recruits would be based out of its seven locations near Mumbai and Chennai, he said. The BPO firm has more than quadrupled its employee base in the country to 7000 from September 2003, when it had an employee base of 1,500 only, he said.
"This is one of the fastest BPO ramp ups in the country, spurred by an addition of many new clients and significant expansion of existing contracts," Vellodi said.
The company's global staff strength rose to 10,000, with around 3,500 located in North America, he said.
Chalking out a roadmap for the year, he said the company expects to increase its revenues to $200 million from the present $140 million, of which 40 per cent was from India.
It also expects to increase revenues from India by around 60 per cent in 2005, he added.
Sutherland forayed into two new verticals, e-retailing and insurance space in 2004 and had acquired a BPO centre of excellence in Virginia Beach, US.
