J & K to get Rs 4200 cr grant

The government would provide special plan assistance to Jammu and Kashmir under a recently approved reconstruction plan, in addition to the normal state plan, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said on Monday.

Presenting the Union Budget for 2005-06 in Lok Sabha, the Finance Minister said as against the current year's state plan of Rs 3008 crore (Rs 30.08 billion), the size of the plan for next year has been fixed at Rs 4200 crore (Rs 42 billion).

He said that Baglihar project was allocated Rs 300 crore (Rs 3 billion) this year and would be provided adequate funds next year too.

The Udhampur-Baramulla rail line would be implemented as a project of national importance, he added.
