Recruitment drive to fill up vacancies in the Railway Protection Force and modernisation programme of the force are in full swing for taking up new challenges and additional responsibilities to ensure passenger security, Railway Minsiter Lalu Prasad said on Saturday in Parliament.

"With these steps, the security to passengers and their belongings is likely to improve considerably," he said presenting the Railway Budget for 2005-06 in the Lok Sabha.
He said that on an average 1,262 train escort parties were being deployed by RPF daily to supplement the efforts of the GRP and also supplement security in many stations.
