The National Organisation of Bank Workers on Monday threatened to launch a nationwide agitation on February 25 to protest the merger of PSU banks as, "It will result in closure of branches and retrenchment of staff."

"NOBW has decided to start nationwide agitation against the merger of PSU Banks," NOBW, affiliated to RSS outfit Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, said in a release.

In the first phase, NOBW will stage a dharna in New Delhi on February 25 protesting the merger of PSU banks and demanding one more option of pension, removal of ban on fresh recruitment and compassionate appointments, and bonus to employees.

"UPA government is planning to bring Bill for the merger of PSU Banks in the coming Budget session which would result in closure of branches and retrenchment of a large number of employees," NOBW alleged.
