Maharashtra to buy Dabhol power @ Rs 2.20 per unit

The Maharashtra government has conveyed to the Centre that it is willing to purchase power from Dabhol plant at Rs 2.20 per unit.

"We have conveyed to the Centre our willingness to purchase power at Rs 2.20 per unit from the Dabhol plant," state Energy Minister Dilip Valse-Patil said in Mumbai on Thursday.

The state, which was facing a shortfall of more than 2,800 MW, has been purchasing power at Rs 3.10 per unit to tide over the deficit.

Patil said the state government has issued a notice for unbundling of the Maharasthra State Electricity Board but did not disclose the status.

He said the government would discuss with the MSEB employees before the unbundling of the state power utility.

Meanwhile, the employees of Maharashtra State Electricity Board under the ageis of MSEB Workers Federation have threatened to go on a state wide strike next month against the proposed unbundling.

The federation has also threatened an indefinite strike if their demands are not met.
