The Congress on Friday said economic liberalisation would continue but it would not go for "mindless" divestment.
"The views of the Congress and its allies will be harmonised on the issue. Divestment will continue but mindless divestment will be stopped," Congress General Secretary Kamal Nath told reporters in New Delhi.

Recalling that the Congress had initiated economic reforms in 1991 and the Bharatiya Janata Party only continued with it, he said: "Now we will correct aberrations in various sectors. The aberrations were to the detriment of the people."
Asked if the Left parties tried to prevent the government in the divestment process, he said, "I think they do understand the issue because they are also ruling in some states. I don't think the Left parties will be an impediment on it."
