After filing a caveat in Calcutta high court to prevent Rajendra S Lodha from taking any legal action without informing them, the Birla family has fired another salvo and asked him to furnish a certified copy of the will made by Priyamvada Birla.
"It is quite natural for us to seek a copy of the will when someone is claiming that he has inherited M P Birla's assets and our solicitors are moving accordingly by serving a notice to Lodha," Basant Kumar Birla, the patriarch of Birla family, said.
Solicitors of the Birla family, Khaitan & Co, had on Wednesday filed a caveat in the high court amidst indications that Lodha too had filed a similar caveat in a district court.
However, Lodha's son had denied taking any such action.
The notice issued by the solicitors demanded a certified copy of the will and also the right to inspect the original by Thursday itself, a B K Birla group official said.
The notice is believed to have been issued by Birlas to ascertain the signatories to the will as witnesses and their credentials. "We would like to know the credentials of those who might have signed as witnesses."
It is also believed that two prominent city doctors were signatories to the will as witnesses though it has not been confirmed yet.
