Software major Infosys Technologies said on Saturday that the passage of the law by the US Senate banning sub-contracting work to other countries, including India, will have no "material impact" on the company as it was not involved in government projects at this point.

Krish Gopalakrishnan, chief operating officer, Infosys, told PTI that this particular Bill concerned sub-contracting work of government projects and 'since the work Indian companies currently do for the US government is not much, we see the impact to be minimal".
Wipro, too, expressed the save views. "Our exposure to US government business is very negligible. So there will not be any impact on our business," Wipro spokesperson told PTI.
"However, as an industry we have to watch the situation," Gopalakrishnan added.
Satyam on its part said such moves would certainly go against global free trade policy.
"Though the current move by the US senate to bar offshoring of government works will not have a great impact on Indian IT companies, it does not augur well for their own economy. Such decisions do not help in moving towards a free-trade policy envisaged by the WTO," Satyam chairman B Ramalinga Raju said in a statement.
"The Senate Bill is yet to be passed as law and we hope the United States government takes a more pragmatic view and does not get pressurised by political considerations," Raju added.
