Six hospitals on the pattern of the Delhi-based prestigious All India [ Images ] Institute of Medical Sciences will be set up in the country, Finance Minister Jaswant Singh [ Images ] announced in Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
A hospital each will be established in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh [ Images ], Orissa, Rajasthan [ Images ] and Uttaranchal under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, he said.
The yojana, unveiled by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee [ Images ] on Independence Day, also envisages the upgradation of one medical college to the level of AIIMS in each of the six states of Andhra Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir [ Images ], Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh [ Images ] and West Bengal [ Images ].
