Mukesh Ambani, locked in a tussle with his brother Anil Ambani over the ownership of over Rs 90,000 crore (Rs 900 billion) Reliance industrial empire, had a meeting with Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Saturday.

The brief meeting was termed as a "courtesy call" by 10, Janpath.

The Reliance 'ownership issue'

It, however, assumes significance in view of Anil's close proximity with the Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Anil became an independent member of the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh a few months back with the support of the Samajwadi Party. The younger Ambani's entry into politics is reportedly not liked by members of the family including his mother Kokilaben Ambani.

The younger brother had a meeting with senior Congress leader and Defence Minister Pranab Mukharjee early this week.

Mukesh Ambani later met Finance Minister P Chidambaram at his residence in New Delhi.
