Swedish white goods company AB Electrolux on Monday said it has identified India as a sourcing base for auto components used in its outdoor division, which makes garden and forestry equipment like chain saws, lawn mowers and lawn tractors.
The company currently sources $9 billion worth of parts, of which 30 per cent will now be sourced from the Asia-Pacific, including India, it said in a statement in New Delhi.
A 20-member team from the company's operations in Sweden, North America and Asia-Pacific will be in India for the national vendor selection and sourcing meet being organised in New Delhi later this month, it added.
In July this year, the company had set up a national purchasing office in Gurgaon to source raw materials, components and finished goods for its global manufacturing operations.
Over the last few months, the company has already ordered $1 million worth of goods from Indian company Abilities (India) Pistons and Rings, while many more components are being actively considered for outsourcing from India by Electrolux.
"India fits in well with Electrolux' growth strategy since it has a strong supplier base which is globally recognised for support, quality and performance benchmarks. India is certain to play a strategic role in the company's growth plans for the Asia-Pacific region," Nick Sowden, vice-president, Asia-Pacific, Electrolux, said.
