Godrej group company Lawkin on Saturday said it has bought the United States-based call centre UpStream for over $6 million from Rosenbluth International.

"We have bought UpStream, an arm of Rosenbluth, for a consideration of a little over $6 million as part of our strategy to service our customers better," Lawkin chief operating officer Sundar Sharma told PTI over phone from Mumbai.

Acquisition of UpStream, largest call centre in travel vertical with an employee strength of 640 people, would help the Godrej group company to offer better services to clients on both on-shore and off-shore locations, he said.

UpStream, established in 2002, is focused on providing customer care solutions through tailored service programmes. The US-based company has primarily worked with travel and related industries, an estimated $600-800 million market there.

"Perhaps the most exciting is Godrej and UpStream's vision for the future. Together we will realise the untapped, vast potential within our outsourcing industry through improved quality service," UpStream COO Jerry Johnson, who will be retained in the new venture, said.

Rosenbluth will continue to support UpStream in an advisory capacity.

Sanjay Tipnis will be the chief financial officer while Sheka Shetty will be the director for IT and telecom Services in the new venture.
