SUCCESS SPAWNS PROTESTS: India's emergence as the world's most popular destination for BPO activities has caused much distress in the US and the UK.

The rising incidence of job losses has sparked off vitriolic protests against India and China, where most of the jobs are being shifted. US politicians are seeking to have laws passed to ban outsourcing, trade unions have threatened nationwide protests, anti-outsourcing Web sites in the US have sprung up by the dozen…

Meanwhile, call centres in India are about to see restrictions on their activity with the US Federal Trade Commission putting curbs on telemarketing calls that can be made to an individual in the United States with effect from October 1.

The FTC has launched a national do-not-call list that will help people stop telemarketing calls. In case of a violation, companies will have to pay up as much as $11,000 per wrong call.
