In the wake of Star India's proposal to uplink its news channel from India raising a major controversy, the government is understood to have decided to revise the uplinking guidelines.
The decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had with Information and Broadcasting Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Friday, sources said.
Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, Law and Justice Minister Arun Jaitley, Bharatiya Janata Party president M Venkaiah Naidu and BJP spokesman V K Malhotra were also present at the meeting.
The meeting came a couple of days after the deliberations of the Group of Ministers, which went into the contentious issue and suggested the need for revising the guidelines in a bid to ensure that they are adhered in "letter and spirit".
