Rakesh Mohan takes over as RBI deputy governor

India's former chief economic adviser, Rakesh Mohan, on Monday took over as a deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India.

Mohan, who has been appointed in place of Y V Reddy, will be in charge of key areas like monetary policy, external investments and operations and internal debt.

The RBI said in a statement that Mohan's appointment is for a period of three years.

Prior to this, Mohan was working as a director and chief executive of Delhi-based Indian Council for Reserach in International Economic Relations.

Mohan, born in 1948, received his masters degree and doctorate in Economics from Princeton University, US, the release said.
