Don't relay divestment differences openly: BJP tells ministers

Terming divestment an 'accepted policy decision' of the National Democratic Alliance coalition, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday asked its ministers in the government to adhere to the BJP president's directive of restraining their reservations on the issue within the government.

"The party had communicated the directive to the ministers through the media and other modes," BJP spokesman Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told newspersons without naming Petroleum Minister Ram Naik and Human Resources Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi who have openly expressed their reservations against divestment.

He, however, declined to spell out the BJP stand if the directive was broken again by any minister, saying such a thing will not happen in the party.

He said the party fully supported the government and the prime minister on divestment. "The BJP has full faith in the decision-making process of the government and is sure that any decision would be taken giving utmost priority to national interest," he added.
