RBI to issue Rs 5 notes in Mahatma Gandhi series soon

The Reserve Bank of India will shortly issue notes of the denomination of Rs 5 in the Mahatma Gandhi series with a slight modification.

The Rs 5 notes in the Mahatma Gandhi series will be issued with capital letter "L" inset in numbering panel bearing the signature of RBI Governor Bimal Jalan, an official release said on Tuesday.

Except for the change in the inset letter, the design of the Rs 5 rupee note to be issued now is similar in all respects to those issued earlier in the Mahatma Gandhi series, it added.
