Subramanyam clarifies on call from PMO

Former Unit Trust of India chairman P S Subramanyam said on Thursday that he never discussed investment proposals of the institution with an Officer on Special Duty in the Prime Minister's Office.

"During my tenure as chairman I met and spoke with Sudheendra Kulkarni, officer on special duty in the PMO, on a few occasions over funding of the national highway projects," he said clarifying reports about the call from the PMO.

"Kulkarni never spoke to me about Cyberspace or about any other investment decisions of UTI," Subramanyam said in a statement.

The talks with Kulkarni on the telephone were in connection with the funding of the national highway development project, the former UTI chairman, who has been released on bail on August 7 in connection with Rs 320.8 million private placement in Cyberspace Ltd, said.

The statement, issued through his lawyer Satish Maneshinde, said: "I specifically interacted with Kulkarni on the funding aspects of the highway development and other infrastructure projects."
