Maruti resumes full production

Maruti Udyog Ltd, the country's largest automobile manufacturer, has resumed 100 capacity utilisation for the first time after the employees strike crippled its operations more than three weeks ago.

The company manufactured 1330 vehicles yesterday, while the production had gone down to 300 vehicles a day on October 12 with the strike.

More than 3,800 employees have since rejoined after giving the good conduct undertaking, a company spokesperson said on Wednesday. Maruti has a total workforce of 5,700.

During the first six days of this month, Maruti produced and sold 7,200 vehicles. Despite the loss of production due to the strike, the company retained 50 market share, the spokesperson said.

The government has categorically stated that it has no plan to intervene in the ongoing agitation in Maruti. The heavy industries ministry cancelled a meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, with employees' representatives and others concerned on the strike.
