A few days ago, we invited Get Ahead readers to comment on whether social networking websites are only for youngsters. Here are a few of the interesting responses we received!

Wish to say that there is no age criteria for social networking, as the word clearly shows that networking of society, we have to see in a way that involve all the people in the society irrespective of their age. So can us in the social networks and make ur life meaningful.

-- Yoga Manian

Yes Sir, Its for the teens. With lots of kids stuff on it. Need to growup leave Orkut.

-- Jennifer Rodrigues

Social Networking sites like Orkut is open for everyone..young and elderly...my father (and he is 65) has an account in Orkut and he gets connected to all my family members and cousins abroad. Also he uses Orkut to share lot of pics and videos when I am not with him.

-- Shyamak Das

My personal experience is that youngsters welcome a person of any age.they are not embarassed of a frnd who is- say- double their age. & children take pride if their parents are so net savvy.

-- Bharti

It looks like that. The youngsters feel like and act like that. One can find a lot of questions which will be a bit awakard for the elders.Another thing one can notice that youngsters avoid elders Q &A,views, comments in a social sites. All these youngsters are not going to remain always young. The sooner they realise it will be better.

-- Ramki

It is and should be open to people of all age groups and not restricted to youngsters.

-- SK

Computers have entered into feature in massive amount just after 2000, when its price started to reduce. And social networking sites started much after that. Initially, young IT knowing peoples and students are well conversant about it. But when the young students grow elder, will they stop Orkutting? In no ways. I think number of elderly people will increase day by day. But those who are older now hesitate to be a member of social networking sites.

-- Milan Bhattacharya

I AM 60 AND FULLY AGREE WITH THE VIEWS THAT THERE IS NO RELATION OR RESTRICTION OF ANY SORT IN SOCIAL NET WORKING BY ANY BODY IRRESPECTIVE OF AGE. RATHER ELDERS ABOVE 55 SHOULD DEVELOP THEIR OWN SITES AND QUESTIONS AND THE OUTCOME OF THEIR DISCUSSION ON ANY SUBJECT SHOULD BE MADE AVAILABLE TO OTHERS FOR GUIDANCE.

-- Mathura Sharma

Though it will make me a bit embarras, if an elderly member I see on social networking site, but fact I should accept that social networking helps out the mental changes of lonely people.
Now a days we can't help out our elders filling their inner emptyness but this way they can seek some joy. Well I mean to say, social networking is good for all.

-- Mamta Mehta

Older people and inner emptiness, loneliness...hmm..thats a shallow view!

It's not because of 'inner emptiness' that all elder people network, but to share their experience and joy amongst each other.

Who said life is only for the teens?
