Preeti Gadok answers, Dear Ravi, MBA in UK is for one year duration. The entry qualifications will vary from one institution to another. There are some institutions that do not require GMAT score or have no requirement for work experience. The strength of the UK MBAs is that they are designed to build on your work experience so that you acquire business & management skills of a very high order. In recent years MBAs have taken a variety of forms. Preeti Gadok answers, Dear Rohit, Please see our guidance on MBA study in the UK. UK education has a world wide reputation for quality. There are two formal rakings available: Teaching Quality Information www.tqi.ac.uk  It is maintained by the Higher Education Research Organisation (HERO). Check this for the National Student Survey (NSS). In which final year students rate the institution at which they are studying on a number of different criteria such as level of academic support they received and the learning resources available to them. Research Assessment Exercise www.hero.ac.uk/rae  The RAE provides quality ratings for research across all subjects. Ratings range from 1 (lowest) to 5* (highest).

krox asked, how can i get a medical(mbbs) course in a good UK college?what tests do i need to give

Preeti Gadok answers, For medicine courses, there are a few UK institutions which are accepting direct admissions after Class XII. Usually, however, Indian qualifications are not recognised. For most institutions you are required to appear for the GCE A-level exams (British equivalent of class XII) in 3 subjects, out of which Chemistry & Biology are compulsory and you need to obtain an 'A' in all three (highest grade). Applications go through the UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service), you can apply to a maximum of 4 institutions. The deadline for sending applications is 15 October of the previous year (to the year of application). Please log on to www.ucas.ac.uk  for more information. Some institutions also use the UK Clinical Aptitude Test (UKCAT) for the selection process. UKCAT is conducted by a consortium of UK University Medical and Dental Schools. The test helps universities to make more informed choices from amongst the many highly-qualified applicants who apply for their medical and dental degree programmes. The UKCAT does not contain any curriculum or science content; nor can it be revised for. It focuses on exploring the cognitive powers of candidates and other attributes considered to be valuable for health care professionals. Registration for the UKCAT is only available online at www.ukcat.ac.uk  Another admission test called BMAT (BioMedical Admissions Test) is part of the selection procedure for medicine, veterinary science and some physiological science courses at The University of Cambridge, Oxford University, University College London, Imperial College London, the Royal Veterinary College and Bristol University Veterinary School. The cost of studying a course in medicine is £16,000 per annum and the cost of living can vary from £6,000 to £7,000 per annum.

rk asked, i want to know about undergraduate engineering possibilities

Aprajita Kalra answers, Thank you for your question Undergraduate courses in engineering in UK are for 3 or 4 years. For admission to undergraduate courses most UK institutions accept Indian school leaving qualifications (CBSE / ISC Board). You will need to meet the minimum marks requirement and this varies between subjects and institutions. Other factors considered are extra-curricular activities, relevant part-time work experience, the quality of your application; your personal statement and the reference form your Principal/teacher. Information on undergraduate courses in engineering is available on: www.ucas.ac.uk

Masters courses in UK are for one year and the entry qualifications is a Bachelor's degree (preferably in a related subject) and an English proficiency test (either IELTS or TOEFL). simran asked, hi i have applied for msc in finance.i wan to knw 1c completed wat are the prospects of this course in india.how well are the students placed?

Preeti Gadok answers, Dear Simran, the masters courses in the UK are world renowned and recognised. We however cannot advise on prospects after completion as they are entirely dependent on a students capability. every college in the UK has a job shop on campus and the career advisors help you seek jobs after completion of your course. In addition to this; from 30 June 2008, international graduates who have studied in the UK will be free to seek employment for up to two years under Tier 1 of the Points Based System (PBS). This allows the most able international graduates to find work in the UK without the need for a sponsor or work permit. Tier 1 (Post-study work) replaces IGS and the Fresh Talent: Working in Scotland Scheme. For more information, log on to www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk

Tejaswi asked, Hi, i have 2 years of teaching experience for MBA students in Bangalore. i am an Engineer and I have done my MBA. i want to do PhD in UK and settle for teching job there for 3-5 years. is this feasible? are there any PhD s awarded in UK in Management?

Aprajita Kalra answers, Dear Tejaswi, Thank you for your question. A research degree, especially a PhD is the ultimate opportunity to pursue your own specialist interests. You initiate and develop a topic under the supervision of an academic (sometimes two academics) who specialises in your chosen field. To be successful, research students must demonstrate intellectual independence and they will be expected to work on their own to a large extent, meeting their supervisor every few weeks. The precise nature of supervision will vary from subject to subject. The normal minimum period required to complete a Ph.D. is three years. However, majority of students takes longer than three years to complete 'writing up'. A realistic time frame for completion of a Ph.D. is three-and-a-half to four years. Research programmes end in a dissertation or thesis of 70,000-100,000 words & must present original findings that are in principle publishable - Check your selected universities' web sites via www.educationuk-in.org  - Find out the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) rating www.hero.ac.uk/rae  From 30 June, international graduates who have studied in the UK will be free to seek employment for up to two years under Tier 1 of the Points Based System (PBS). Preeti Gadok answers, Dear Anushreedha, You can opt for research based programmes in the UK. A research degree, especially a PhD is the ultimate opportunity to pursue your own specialist interests. You initiate and develop a topic under the supervision of an academic (sometimes two academics) who specialises in your chosen field. Aprajita Kalra answers, Dear Manu, thank you for your participation. From 30 June, international graduates who have studied in the UK will be free to seek employment for up to two years under Tier 1 of the Points Based System (PBS). This is twice the length of stay permitted under the old International Graduate Scheme (IGS) rules and allows the most able international graduates to find work in the UK without the need for a sponsor or work permit. Tier 1 (Post-study work) replaces IGS and the Fresh Talent: Working in Scotland Scheme. For more information, log on to www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk
