GizmoWatch: 'This phone's a disappointing buy'

We asked our readers to send in their reviews of gadgets they've used. In response, GA reader, Sarwar Ali from Kolkata, sent us his review of the Sony Ericsson P999i mobile phone he bought recently. Here's what he has to say:

I was using Sony Ericsson K700i until very recently. It was an amazing phone with the only shortfall being that it did not have a card slot. With 47 Mb of limited storage, it was the best phone I ever had used. You put it to work under any conditions and it amazed, which was why I was under the impression that Sony Ericsson (SE) was the best phone maker and I used to swear by it.

So, when I decided to upgrade, SE was the obvious choice. I bought a P990i, the most expensive and flagship model of the brand at Rs 22,000 (it was a Swisscom set). The P990i with Indian warranty was priced at 31,500 at the time.

To my horror its keypad failed within a week. Since it was not covered under warranty I could do nothing. My only solace was that the touchscreen still worked and the PDA keypad was working. I still missed using the flap keypad though.

But that's not all. The main problem is the software. After updating it thrice, it is still not stable. After every update, the problem is solved but three new ones are created.

To all my Indian brethren, please be careful about the phone you choose. And If you have more money than you can handle, donate it!
