The shooting of a teenage student at a Delhi school last week has stunned the nation. So have the suicides of two teenagers in other, unrelated incidents -- a young boy who was depressed at discrimination allegedly directed at him in the classroom because he did not take private tuition from school teachers; and a college-going youth who couldn't cope with studying in an English-medium institution.
Frustrated youngsters are beginning to vent their ire by taking drastic steps over trivial issues. And for the first time guns are involved.
What loved ones and friends often interpret as mild stress in a youngster is turning out to be the decisive factor in whether they take their own lives or those of others by violent action.
Should we go on red alert due to the fact that such tragedies are increasingly coming to our notice or do you feel that they are one-off, isolated instances?
