IIT-JEE details announced

What: The IIT Joint Entrance Examination for admission to under graduate courses in seven Indian IITs [Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee] announced.

Date of examination: 13th April, 2008

Paper I: 9.00 am to 12 noon
Paper II: 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm

All Indian and foreign nationals seeking admission to the seven Institutes must appear in JEE.

Eligibility
Candidates must meet ALL the following conditions:

1. A candidate can attempt JEE only twice, in consecutive years. Candidates who have passed (10+2) or equivalent qualifying examination in 2007 or will be appearing in 2008, and secure 60% or more [55% or more for SC/ST and Persons with Physical Disability (PD)] marks in aggregate in their respective Board Examination are eligible. If any Board awards only letter-grades, the candidate should obtain a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent percentage marks. In case the respective Board awards letter-grades without providing norms for converting them to equivalent percentage marks, the norms decided by the Joint Implementation Committee, JEE- 2008 shall be final.

2. Candidates should not have accepted admission by paying full fees at any of the IITs, IT-BHU, Varanasi, and ISMU, Dhanbad through JEE.

3. Only those candidates whose date of birth falls on or after October 1, 1983 are eligible for JEE-2008. However, in case of SC/ST and PD candidates, the upper age limit is relaxed by five years, i.e. SC/ST and PD candidates born on or after October 1, 1978 are eligible.

Pattern of examination:
The examination will consist of two papers, each of three hours duration. Paper-1 and Paper-2 will each have three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Both papers will be of objective type, designed to test comprehension, reasoning and analytical ability of candidates.

Aptitude tests for B Arch and B Des programmes will be conducted for those candidates who qualify in JEE and are desirous of joining these programmes.

Syllabus is available on the websites of all IITs and the Information Brochure of JEE- 2008.

Language for question papers: English / Hindi

Reservation of seats:

1. 15% for SC and 7.5% for ST candidates with relaxed qualifying norms. Some SC/ST candidates, who do not qualify in JEE-2008, may be offered admission to the Preparatory Course of one-year duration provided (i) seats are available, (ii) candidates satisfy minimum norms, and (iii) candidates have not undergone the Preparatory Course earlier. Candidates successfully completing the Preparatory Course will be offered direct admission to the first year in the academic year 2009-10.

2. 3% for PD, including leprosy-cured candidates, who are otherwise fit to pursue the course and who qualify for admission under relaxed norms relevant for this category.

Preferential Allotment of Seats: Two seats in each Institute are preferentially allotted to children of defense/ paramilitary personnel killed or permanently disabled in action during war or peacetime operations and who qualify in the General Category.

Application submission
1. A candidate can submit application either on-line through internet or off-line through paper application.

(A) Off-line: A candidate can buy an application form with information brochure from any one of the designated branches of banks by paying Rs 500/- for SC/ST/Female candidates (WHITE COLOUR envelope) or Rs 1000/- for all other candidates (BLUE COLOUR envelope). Information brochure contains details regarding application procedure, syllabus of JEE, examination centres, courses available at various institutions, counseling, fee structure and other relevant information about JEE-2008.

The demand draft of amount appropriate to category/gender must be drawn on any Nationalized Bank in favour of "Chairman, JEE" of the respective IIT payable at the corresponding city. Candidates applying from abroad should remit the amount in Indian Rupees. IITs will not be responsible for any loss or postal delay.

(B) On-line: For online submission of applications, visit any of the websites given below and carefully follow the instructions given therein.
