Designer Niki Mahajan's collection was the first to be showcased at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week in Delhi. The inspiration for the collection was Pushkar, a popular tourist haunt and home to the famed Pushkar mela in Rajasthan.
We saw a mix of colour, prints, patches of embellishment, asymmetrical cuts and layers.
Accessories included gold coin encrusted tie-up belts and gold coin borders.
Mahajan has also used the culotte, a style that was quite popular in the 1990s. The culotte resembles a divided skirt or an extremely loose pair of pants.
The collection saw lots of long, scintillating skirts that swirled rather well on the ramp, with layers and various prints mixed together. There were knee-length skirts too.
We saw trendy jootis, with slim straps at the back.
Can you wear this?Mahajan came up with a collection that was very boho, yet very chic. Every piece she had created was wearable.
The handbags were nothing to write home about, but we liked the gold disc-encrusted belts; they sit on your waist pretty well.
Quick tip: Wear each of these pieces with a basic top or skirt or trouser (which meant it has just one colour and no embellishments), so you balance the look well.
