Post the excitement of giving the Common Admission Test 2005, you need to start planning for the road ahead.

Vinod Soni and Rajesh Pandita of ManyaCAT, in a chat with CAT aspirants on November 21 offered this advice: Start preparing for your Group Discussion and Personal Interview. Brush up on your general knowledge; it will prepare you for the GD. PI would require a lot of introspection.

Vinod is an architect and has studied management at MDI. He worked with ICI Paints and was stationed in China for three years. His background in design and an affinity for academics led him to join The Princeton Review, where he looks after content design and study methodology.

  • Will you get a call from the IIMs?

Rajesh is the director, ManyaCAT. He has worked with multinationals like NIIT and Informatics. Before joining the Manya Group, he worked with FIIT JEE. At ManyaCAT he prepares candidates for various B-school entrance examinations, including CAT, XAT, SNAP, etc.

    Here is the transcript:

Part II: Are sectional cut-offs a problem?

vivekanand: Sir,This is the second time I'm asking you. Please give me a reply,My expected scores are 11 in DI, 10 in QA and 20-22 in VA.Where should I expect interview and GD calls from??

Rajesh: At least not from the IIMs. It could be Nirma, LBISM and similar kind of institutes.

RV1: Dear Sir, I'm a graduate with BSc statistics and have 5 yrs of exp as software Eng. I'm planning to go for MBA. Please suggest me in this regard. Also my English is very poor where as my QA, DI and Reasoning are really good. So for any of the Business Schools, is there any constraint that we've to qualify in all the sections? Please let me kow sir.

Rajesh: I think in your case you have to map your career growth. You can go for part-time or executive MBA.

sony: Inspite of good prep. for eng. I goofed up?

Rajesh: The thing which matters is how you click in those two hours.

sandeep: such stupid questions in Quants and DI...i don't understand what IIMs want to check on the basis of these easy questions...and how can you people call these two sections tough??

Rajesh: If they are easy, they are easy for everybody so they will pick up the intelligent ones from the fools.

koushik: Sir am a visually challenged guy, am expecting these scores in cat 2005 QA6.33, DI21, VA 19, what are my chances to get calls from IIMs.

    ashisham
: Sir i am quite confident of a IIM call, what should i do prepare for GD/PI or conceterate on XAT and snap

Vinod: Amit, was your experience in technical field? Depending on that you could keep some hope for SP Jain. But still, 40 is a low score.

    Santosh
: My freind has score of Quant 8 Di 12 and VA 22. what will be his percentile and chences of call from IIM and non IIM.

Vinod: Multiple IIMs. Start preparing for your GD/ PI.

Vinod: Other than top 10 schools, rest of the schools are not so strict on sectional cut-offs. So you can still expect calls from some good schools.

    goutam
: SIR, can i expect a call from TAPMI with a score in the range of 29-31.

Vinod: TAPMI would be tough at this score. But keep your hopes high and prepare for further coming tests.

Rajesh: Improbable. But Nirma, LBSIM could be possible.

    sony
: Any suggestions or advice for people scoring less than their expectation?

Vinod: Prepare for other exams. Also good students in even ordinary institutes can get good starting placement. If you still get a call from top 50 and have good work experience, don't waste your year.
