ood news for students of engineering colleges in the rural areas of Tamil Nadu!
The Tamil Nadu State level placement programme of the Anna University, will force engineering colleges in the rural areas to improve the standard of teaching, laboratory, and other extra-curricular activities, including communication skills, said University vice chancellor Dr E Balagurusamy.
The programme is being organised through its centre for Industry-University Collaboration.
Inaugurating the placement programme for the students of 65 colleges in Tirunelveli, Tiruchi and Karaikudi zone, he said the programme would benefit the first batch of graduates of the University in a big way.
Multinational companies had hitherto been holding campus interviews only in big cities.
This new programme will help them spot talent in rural colleges.

Anna University produces 75,000 engineers every year and meets 29 percent of the requirement for engineers in the country.
A few private colleges have said to have thwarted attempts made by the university to improve the standard. This central recruitment will now force the colleges to improve their standard.
Of the 2,000 personnel recruited recently by various MNCs, said Balagurusamy, Anna University accounts for 1,000 personnel.
As part of its programme to improve the quality of its faculty, the University has trained 3,500 teachers.
It has also come out with a detailed table of requirements of laboratory for a good college.
The University also plans to increase the cut-off mark for admission.
Recently, 114 students have been provided jobs through the University placement programme held at Chennai and Coimbatore.
Dr P Mannar Jawahar, director of the centre, said that 11 companies have agreed to participate in the programme.
All the colleges of university, except the autonomous colleges, will benefit from the programme.
