BPO

Our expert, Zia Shiekh, answers all your questions on the BPO industry.

How do I overcome a situation where I am not getting the results for my hard work? I am being overlooked and my superiors are avoiding me.

- Sudhir

It is probably time for you to move on if you are not getting the attention or appreciation from your superiors. There are many opportunities in the BPO sector. I am sure you can find one that meets your aspirations and gives you job satisfaction.

I am 24, and stay in Hyderabad. I have discontinued my intermediate studies. I am very good at language(English), and would like to work in a call centre. Do I need to complete my degree, since that would mean a lot of time?

- Santosh

There are many BPOs and call centres that do not insist on a graduation degree. If you have good English language skills and communication abilities, you should be able to get a good break in the BPO/ call centre industry without specific degrees or educational qualifications.

I hold an MBA and now work in the real estate industry. I worked earlier as a Customer Care Executive for a call centre -- they did not offer me a management post. Do you think any call centre can give me an opportunity in their management (Operations, Business Development) divisions? I am keen to work in this industry.

- Rajiv Bagdwal

I don't think you will find it very tough to get a break in the BPO/ call centre industry. Since you are already focused on the real estate industry, why not focus on the BPOs that are specialised/ niche players in that domain? You can bring much more to the table, and use your knowledge/ expertise to add additional value.

I work as a software developer in Hyderabad. I want to work for a BPO organisation in my spare time. I have five years of experience in software development in the fields of C, C++, VC++ and Vxworks. I want to work as a Technical Support Associate. Can you please guide me?

D Joseph

I must warn you that a BPO job is not something that you can take on a part-time basis. It is a full-time job. You need to take a call whether you want to continue in the software development field or crossover to the BPO/ call centre industry. Whatever your decision, it will need focused approach and full-time effort to be successful in either environment.

I have been trying to get into a BPO for over a year now. I have 11 years of experience in sales and network development, handling operations, manpower development, business development, and training and development. I have also been handling credit control for the last three years. But I have not been able to get into this high potential field. It would help if you could tell me why I am not succeeding.
