According to fashion designer Ashley Rebello who chatted with Get Ahead readers on December 2, it depends on where you are going. If you plan to meet at a coffee shop then jeans and a tee shirt or a flared skirt and a tank top will do. You can also throw on a denim jacket.
If it is a dinner and your first date, then preferably wear something sexy (but not too overtly skimpy) like a one-piece knee-length dress. You'll be a winner.
Fashion designer Ashley Rebello has styled for Bollywood films like Chameli, Company, Kasak, Kareeb, Page 3, Karam, Hum Hai Raahi Pyar Ki, Koi Aap Sa and Shabd, to name a few.
He has dressed up a bevy of stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Sushmita Sen, Aamir Khan, Tabu, Priyanka Chopra, Mallika Sherawat, Karishma Kapoor and Ayesha Takia.
In the pipeline are Madhur Bhandarkar's Corporate, Subhash Ghai's Shaadi Se Pehle and Pyar Ke Side Effects, a romantic comedy starring Mallika Sherawat and Rahul Bose.

Part II: How to look like a style icon
Ashley Rebello: Hi there, Ashley here.
anne: hi ashley i am 5 feet 3 inches slightly toward the fatter side tell me what should i wear to look tall and slim.
Ashley Rebello: Hi Anne, it's not about how slim and tall you look. It's about having the right attitude and creating a style of your own. A slim long skirt in cotton and a kurta top would look lovely.
Normally, stouter people wear oversized clothes thinking they will look slimmer. Just remember to wear one size bigger than what you are and not two sizes.
guddu: hi I m a software engineer in pune and dont beleive in dressing with jeans or skirts do u really feel indian dresses are now old fashion.
Ashley Rebello: Hey Guddu, not at all. You can reinvent Indian clothes and look extremely smart with combinations like short kurtas and formal trousers or even fitted shirts and flare skirts with Indian prints. You can add in a stole or a crushed duppatta and I'm sure you'd never ask me that question again.
chinmay: Iam 5'11" weight 68 kgs ,which type of outfit should I prefer.
Ashley Rebello: Are you a girl or a guy?

Ashley Rebello: Chinna, it depends on where you are going. If you're going for coffee, then jeans and a tee shirt or a flared skirt and a tank top with a denim jacket would be ideal.

zabi: please tell me the dressing stlye as i am thin and all say i look thin in any dressing style i do/?
Ashley Rebello: First and foremost Zabi, being thin is very in and looking great is just about how you team up your clothes. Try and wear layered clothes like tank tops with a shirt on top or wear denim jackets. Wear flared skirts in crushed materials.
You can have gathers at the waist. If your hands are too thin, try wearing full sleeves. To avoid looking too thin at the neck, try wearing higher necks or just plain vee necks. Avoid wide necks like boat necks.
Ruchitt: my friends say that having height of 5'11 and weight 72.... i have the option to wear any kind of clothesbut i feel i need to have that attitude according to the clothes i wear... how to develop that? I m comfortable with formals only.
Ashley Rebello: Hey Ruchitt, first and foremost, get the attitude right. Clothes make a man and wearing the right kind of clothes would only add to your personality.
Even with formals nowadays, there is something known as 'Friday Dressing'.
You can add colour to your wardrobe by wearing hues of burgundy, ink blue, dark peach, rust, etc, to brighten up your suits.
rr: I am indian born in U.S and lived for 20 years. I am getting married in India. What is my best option for the wedding dress?
Ashley Rebello: Getting married in India comes with a lot of excess baggage. If you are getting married Catholic style, then a beautiful evening gown with Indian style work will do.
If it is a north Indian Hindu wedding, then fish-tail skirts and corset like blouses with stone and sequin work in colours of pink and turquoise are really in.

Ashley Rebello: Hi Nayak, even a finance professional can wear 'relaxed' clothing like flat-front khakis and a nice coloured shirt, and the same coloured tie to go with it. If you are the jacket kind, try donning a corduroy jacket for a change.
shrutika: hi, myself shrutika.. i am not tall but average ht. of 5.2" and often dress short kurtas to office .can u suggest quite comforatable and formal wear to office?
Ashley Rebello: Hey Shrutika, wearing a churidar with a short kurta up to your knees will definitely make you look taller and thank God for high heels. If you are looking at Western wear, slim-fit trousers or even capris with short jackets and tank tops inside would look lovely.

Ashley Rebello: Pankaj, you need to hit the gym. Jokes aside, black flat-front trousers is a must in your wardrobe. Get rid of all pleated stuff. Your shirts should just be your size and not larger. Preferrably full sleeves.

charun: What the latest type of Jeans available in the market?
Ashley Rebello: Charun, jeans are of all kinds. You have to find the one that looks good on you. Low-waisted, fitted on the hips, with boot-cut bottoms are really in fashion. You can even cut the rim of your edge of your jeans or fold them up to at least four inches, like what I am wearing right now. Wish I could show you :)
