"This is the first time I have visited Shimla. It is very beautiful. I have never seen such a place in my life. The people are so good, too," says Rama Krishan Rao, a tourist from Karnataka.
Peak season:
April to July is the peak season for the tourism industry in Shimla.
During this season, the city receives around 12,000 to 15,000 visitors each year.
"Tourists come here thinking hoping for excellent weather, away from the scorching sun. So this season is pretty good for us. Business gets a big boom. Taxi drivers, horse-riders, hoteliers and guides expect good business," says Shimla travel agent Surinder Chauhan.
"It is the best time. People like hoteliers, photographers and porters, too, can earn a lot during this season. I earn somewhere between Rs 100 and Rs 200 per day," says Abdul Samad, a porter from Kashmir.
Apart from the weather, the architecture of Shimla is a huge attraction too.
The city contains buildings of high historical, architectural and technological significance.
The Kathkuni or Kathkundi style of building is unique to this part of the world. This design has also evoked an enormous seismic response.
