Jayalalithaa resigns as chief minister

J Jayalalithaa [ Images ], leader of All India [ Images ] Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam [ Images ], resigned as Tamil Nadu chief minister on Thursday, after her party was defeated in the Assembly elections.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led Democratic Party Alliance is set to form the new government with M Karunanidhi [ Images ] as chief minister.

She sent her resignation to Governor S S Barnala through IT Minister D Jayakumar, AIADMK sources said.
