The Election Commission on Monday expressed its displeasure to the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in Tamil Nadu for violating the model code of conduct by using a large number of vehicles during electioneering in the assembly polls in the state.

In two separate notices to the AIADMK, the EC had earlier pointed out that Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had used nearly 80 vehicles during her visit to Krishnagiri district on May 1 and 2.

In its reply, AIADMK said it has not violated the model code.

After considering its reply, the commission expressed its displeasure to the party for not observing the spirit of the model code.

In a notice to the DMK, the commission pointed out that as many as 34 vehicles were used by Union Communications Minister and DMK leader Dayanidhi Maran during electioneering in Krishnagiri district on May 3.

DMK in its reply had stated that the public meeting was attended by the party cadres as well as other alliance parties and transportation to attend the meeting was not arranged by it.

After going through the explanation given by DMK, "The commission has decided to express its displeasure conveyed to the DMK for the second time for not observing the spirit of the model code."
