The Left Front is likely to get more than half of the 76 assembly seats in Kolkata and adjoining North and South 24-Parganas districts which went to the polls on Thursday in the third phase of Assembly elections, according to exit polls conducted by two private television channels.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Front is likely to win 45 of the 76 seats, while the Trinamool Congress will bag 26, the Congress three and other parties two, the exit polls said.
The exit poll predicted a Left win in 11 seats in Kolkata, 22 in North 24 Parganas and 12 in South 24-Parganas. The TC is likely to bag eight, four and 14 seats in Kolkata, North and South 24-Parganas respectively. The Congress has hopes in two seats in Kolkata and one in North 24 Parganas. West Bengal's lone Left opposition Socialist Unity Centre of India is likely to bag two seats in South 24-Parganas.
Of the total 187 seats which went to the polls over the three phases, the Front is likely to win 128, the TC 47, the Congress 10 and other parties two.
Regarding the precentage of votes polled by the various parties in today's elections, the exit polls indicated that the Front's share was 46.1 per cent, TC 37.3 per cent, Congress 13.00 per cent and other parties 3.6 per cent.
