The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Sunday finalised a seat sharing accord among the Democratic Progressive Alliance partners to contest the coming elections to the 30-member Pondicherry assembly, giving a lion's share of 16 seats to the ruling Congress in the Union territory.

Under the agreement signed in Chennai, the DMK will contest 11 seats. The Pattali Makkal Katchi had been allotted two and the Communist Party of India one, Congress sources said.

The Congress, DMK, PMK and the CPI, are partners in the DMK-led DPA in Tamil Nadu.

The accord was signed between Pradesh Congress Committee leader P Shanmugham and former DMK chief minister R V Janakiraman.

Though the DPA had finalised the seat sharing exercise for the Tamil Nadu assembly last month itself, an accord on Pondicherry eluded the partners with the Congress staking claim as the major partner.
