Communist Party of India (Marxist) stalwart V S Achuthanandan on Wednesday filed nomination papers for the Malampuzha assembly seat in Palakkad district. Achuthanandan is the lone CPI (M) politbureau member contesting the assembly elections in Kerala.
Achuthanandan filed his papers before the returning officer concerned at the Civil Station in Palakkad.
The Congress has fielded youth leader Satheesan Pacheni, who lost to Achuthanandan in the 2001 elections by a margin of 4,703 votes.
