The Congress on Wednesday denied allegations that the Central government led by it had any role in the Jharkhand governor's decision to invite Shibu Soren to form the government in the state.
Talking to rediff.com, party spokesperson Anand Sharma said, "It is entirely the decision of Governor Syed Sibtey Razi. He has the constitutional right to use his discretion and decide upon who can give the state a stable government."
According to Congress spokesperson Satyavrat Chaturvedi, the governor has 'not done anything wrong'.
He said the Bharatiya Janata Party had no right to oppose the government's decision, as the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre had imposed President's rule in Bihar, by disregarding norms.
He claimed Shibu Soren had the majority, which would be easily proved.
The governor met both the groups and used his discretion to arrive on the decision, he said. Stating that the governor was more satisfied with the claims made by the Soren group, Chaturvedi asked, "Does the governor have the right to take a decision or not?"
The Congress spokesperson said the party did not think the BJP would get an issue to fight against the UPA government.
