Haryana Congress President Bhajan Lal staked claim for chief ministership in the state in Chandigarh on Sunday.
Bhajan Lal was declared elected from Adampur constituency in Hissar district by a record margin of 71,080 votes.
He said a meeting of newly elected party legislators will be held soon after holding discussions with the party high command.
Bhajan Lal, who has ruled the state thrice, said he would go to New Delhi for discussions with central party leaders.
He said his party's priority would be to maintain peace, amity and overall development of the state.
"The landslide victory of the Congress in the assembly polls is an endorsement of the policies and programmes of the Congress under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi," he said.
