Bihar: Campaigning ends peacefully

Campaigning for Bihar's third and final phase of assembly election ended peacefully on Monday.

The state administration has made elaborate security arrangements in all the 93 constituencies going to polls on Wednesday.

Nearly 400 companies of paramilitary personnel and police forces from Punjab, Karnataka and West Bengal, along with the state police and 50,000 home guards, have been deployed to maintain law and order.

There are just over two crore people eligible to vote in the third phase.

There are 1,329 candidates contesting these seats spread over 11 districts.

With the end of the third phase, voting in Bihar would have been completed in 242 of the 243 constituencies.

Polling for Suryagarh assembly constituency in Lakhisarai district will be held on February 26.

Suryagarh was to have gone to polls in the second phase on February 15, but the Election Commission postponed voting citing security reasons.

The RJD is contesting 86 assembly seats, LJP 74, Congress 33, and BJP 41, JD (U) 53, Bahujan Samaj Party 92 and Nationalist Congress Party 13 seats.

Counting of votes will be on February 27.
