Tainted Member of Parliament Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav is likely to be shifted to Tihar Jail in Delhi from Beur Jail in Patna, Inspector General of Prisons Dipak Kumar Singh said on Friday.
Singh said that he had received a written request from the Senior Superintendent of Police (Patna) N H Khan regarding the matter.
He was likely to be taken to Delhi by train on Friday evening.
Khan said he had received the Supreme Court's order on February 14 directing Yadav's shift. "We have also arranged the security personnel to escort the prisoner," he added.
A Constitution Bench comprising Justice N Santosh Hegde and Justice S B Sinha had ordered that Yadav be shifted within a week.
The Bench warned the officials involved in Yadav's shift not to 'extend any special privileges to him and to scrupulously follow the jail manual'.
Yadav, who recently quit the Rashtriya Janata Dal over differences with party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, is an accused in the killing of Communist Party of India leader Ajit Sarkar.
