A first information report in connection with the distribution of CDs on the Godhra riots was registered on Saturday against the Rupauli Rashtriya Janata Dal member of Legislative Assembly Beema Bharti.
Police officials said Bharti was charged with violation of the model code of conduct, following complaints from the opposition over distribution the CDs.
Bharti is seeking re-election.
The Election Commission on Saturday served a notice to the ruling RJD in Bihar, seeking clarification on the issue.
A four-member RJD delegation, comprising party general secretary Ram Kripal Yadav, state campaign committee chairman Bhola Prasad Singh, treasurer Rakesh Kumar and state general secretary Ram Bachan Rai, met Chief Electoral officer K C Saha on Sunday and submitted an explanation.
The National Democratic Alliance, which is a major contender in the ongoing assembly polls, had demanded stern action against the RJD for allegedly screening the controversial CDs to garner votes.
