After posters depicting post-Godhra riots sprouted at various places in Bihar, CDs containing footage of the incidents are now being shown in Purnea.

This has prompted the Bharatiya Janata Party to approach the Election Commission seeking 'punitive action' against the Rashtriya Janata Dal and district authorities, including the district magistrate.

"Such CDs are being played in the constituency of Bima Bharati, RJD member of Legislative Assembly in Purnea and elsewhere in blatant violation of the model code of conduct for elections," BJP national vice-president Sushil Kumar Modi told PTI in Patna.

He accused the RJD of 'exploiting religion' for electoral purposes by 'indulging in such objectionable tactics'.

"Use of such CDs and posters at the time of elections will disturb peace and communal amity," Modi said.

A three-phase assembly election started in Bihar on February three. The second phase will be held on Feb 15 and the third on Feb 23.

When contacted, RJD treasurer Rakesh Ranjan said, "There is nothing objectionable in the CDs despatched by the party from here [Patna] as we have properly examined them keeping the model code in mind."

Posters depicting the post-Godhra riots had earlier surfaced in Bihar's Kishanganj and Bhagalpur districts.

Assembly constituencies in Kishanganj and Purnea districts go to poll in the second phase of assembly election on February 15.
