Arunachal Pradesh recorded 25 per cent polling till mid-day as voters braved incessant rains to exercise their franchise in the assembly elections on Thursday.
The polling was peaceful in almost all stations in the state till mid-day, chief electoral officer M K Parida said.
Women voters outnumbered men in most of the polling stations to choose 57 representatives from 163 candidates in the fray. Three Congress candidates have already been elected unopposed to the 60-member assembly.
Polling in three stations in Vijaynagar circle of Miao constituency of Changlang district has been postponed as personnel and voting machines could not reach the booths due to flash floods. EVMs are being used in assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh for the first time.
Assembly elections in the state have generally been peaceful. However, in view of the tense situation prevailing in Kurung Kumey area and some other towns, special security arrangements have been made this time.
While the Congress has fielded candidates for all the 57 seats; BJP is contesting 38; Arunachal Congress is contesting in 11 seats and the NCP in 10. There are also 47 independents in the fray. Arunachal Pradesh, a largely tribal state, has a track record of registering high voter turnout.
Polling will end at 4pm.
