The ruling Mizo National Front, a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance, on Thursday bagged the lone Mizoram Lok Sabha seat as well as the by-poll to the Kolasib assembly seat.
Counting was completed in all polling stations, except for two situated in the southernmost Lawngtlai assembly segment.
The MNF's Vanlalzawma defeated his nearest Mizoram Secular Force-sponsored Independent candidate, Laltluangliana Khiangte, by a margin of 21,582 votes.
The margin is huge in a parliamentary constituency like Mizoram, which has only 5,49,945 voters.
Vanlalzawma secured 1,78,271 votes while Khiangte got 1,56,689.
The MNF candidate was a lecturer by profession. He was elected as an independent in the 1999 parliamentary polls.
