Polling began in 1,700 booths in two Lok Sabha constituencies of Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday amidst a 48-hour bandh called by the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union over the Chakma-Hajong refugee issue.
Tight security measures are in place in view of the bandh, which started on Tuesday, over inclusion of names of 1,497 Chakma-Hajong refugees in the electoral roll, official sources said.
The contest is mainly between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress-Arunachal Congress alliance.
