The Congress will contest the Lok Sabha elections in Haryana on its own and the names of its candidates for the 10 seats would soon be announced by the high command.

Senior party leaders Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee president and the former chief minister Bhajan Lal and Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda claim party chief Sonia Gandhi's roadshow had improved the party's image.

At a function at the Motilal Nehru School of Sports at Rai, about 13 km from Sonepat on Thursday evening, they pointed out, "The presence of thousands of people during her two-day mass contact campaign across the state showed that the people of Haryana are behind the party and they want a Congress government at the Centre," they said.

The Congress leaders claimed that the people of Haryana were fed up with the INLD government and were waiting for assembly elections to dislodge Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala from power.
