Laloo Prasad Yadav, chief of the ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal, had once famously claimed that roads in Bihar were 'as smooth as the cheeks of Hema Malini'.
But the heartthrob of millions was unimpressed.
The actor had a harrowing time travelling on Bihar's roads and was not about to keep quiet about it when she visited the Bihar capital on Monday to campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The district administration and BJP volunteers had a hard time controlling an impatient crowd, which had thronged the campus of a government school at Phulwarisharif in Patna in large numbers.
A stampede-like situation ensued when the 'Dream Girl' arrived at the venue more than two hours late. The crowd went wild trying to get closer to the dais. The cheering continued as long as she was present at the venue.
"Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is the bhagwan (benefactor) of the country. He is doing everything to keep it blossoming. Today, Vajpayee is rated as a great leader not only in India but in the world," she told them.
She concentrated on issues like Bihar's development and lamented the poor condition of roads in the state. "The roads in Bihar are full of potholes and in horrible condition. I had a bumpy ride on the roads in the state," she complained.
The film actress-turned-BJP leader also deplored the condition of women in the state.
