CEC fails to cast his vote

James Michael Lyngdoh is in trouble. The man who exhorts every adult Indian to vote and is responsible for organising the entire electoral process on Monday failed to cast his vote in the Delhi [ Images ] assembly elections.

The Chief Election Commissioner, whose name figures at serial number 725 of the voters list at Polling Station number 79 in the Gole Market constituency, failed to keep his date with his democratic right even though all other eligible VVIPs, including President A P J Abdul Kalam [ Images ] and former Presidents exercised their franchise.

Mediapersons were tipped at least twice about his going to the polling booth. However, he failed to turn up at the polling booth.

Many voters were seen frowning when they came to know that the CEC himself had not cast his vote. "At least he should have cast his vote since he and his department lectures everyone to exercise their democratic right," said one of the voters referring to the Election Commission's widely-publicised advertisement exhorting the electorate: "Do vote. It's your right and duty."
