Lendl Simmons made a career-best 282 to lift West Indies A to 574 for eight declared against the touring England side on the second day of the three-day tour match in St.Kitts on Friday.

Trinidad and Tobago batsman Simmons resumed on 171 overnight and added a further 111 before he was out lbw to Ryan Sidebottom, the left-arm seamer's first wicket since coming back from a six month injury layoff.

Simmons, the 24-year-old nephew of former West Indies batsman Phil, took a particular shine to England spinner Graeme Swann who ended with figures of nought for 160 from 41 overs.

Steve Harmison, fighting for his place in the side for Tuesday's first Test against the West Indies, finished with four for 101 from 25.5 overs on the flat track.

In reply, England captain Andrew Strauss was unbeaten on 55 and Ian Bell on 49 to lift England to 113 for one at the close after they lost opener Alastair Cook for a duck.
