Harbhajan dismisses fitness doubts

Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh [ Images ] on Monday declared that he is fully fit for the upcoming three-Test series against South Africa [ Images ].

The national selectors meet in Bangalore on Monday evening to pick India's [ Images ] squad for the first two Tests against South Africa and there were reports that Harbhajan could be rested for not proving his fitness.

However, the Punjab [ Images ] bowler quashed all rumours, saying he is fully fit and ready to prove himself if asked to by the Board.

"I am fully fit. I could not go through a fitness test at the NCA because there was a function at my home. I had already informed the Board about it," Harbhajan told rediff.com.

Former physio John Gloster's report at the end of the Australia [ Images ] tour had mentioned that the off-spinner needed two weeks' rest to recover from a hamstring injury and thus there were doubts about him being selected.

"I have told the Board that I am fit. If they ask me, I am ready to prove my fitness anytime they want," he added.

Despite a new ruling that all injured players must undergo a fitness test ahead of a series, the selectors went by the Board's word and picked Harbhajan in the 14-man squad for the Test series against South Africa, starting in Chennai on March 26.

Yuvraj Singh [ Images ], who is also recovering from a knee injury, went though the fitness test successfully this morning at the National Cricket Academy and was selected.
