Akhtar has signed up for IPL: Modi

Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar [ Images ], who is on a brief visit to Mumbai [ Images ], has already signed up for the Indian Premier League [ Images ] and is available to go under the hammer at the players' auction on Wednesday, IPL chief Lalit Modi [ Images ] said on Tuesday.

"Shoaib has signed up for the IPL," said Modi after a meeting with the representatives of the eight city-specific franchises who will take part in the auction here to bid for 77 players, from India and overseas.

 IPL: Chennai Kings ready to roll

Shoaib, who preferred to rest in his hotel room for the most part of the day, had met Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan [ Images ] at the latter's residence last night.

Soon after his arrival, the controversial speedster went to Haji Ali dargah where he offered a chadar of Rs 5,000 before meeting Khan, who is the owner of the Kolkata [ Images ] franchise of the IPL through the Red Chillies Entertainment.

Sources said Akhtar, who is scheduled to be in the city for a few more days, is also eager to meet film star Sanjay Dutt [ Images ] while he is in Mumbai.
